Soul-Rock Siren Malina Moye Signs Deal With BDG-Sony Red

Just over a year ago, SoulTrain.com contributor Starletta Watson profiled left-handed guitar slayer Malina Moye as a SoulTrain.com Sound Check artist…Moye announced earlier this week that she–along with her record label, WCE Records–inked a distribution and marketing deal with BDG-Sony Red.

During their Q&A, Moye mused about her influences, her journey from neophyte player to world-renowned acclaim, and her album Rock & Roll Baby. Never one to rest on her laurels, Moye announced earlier this week that she–along with her record label, WCE Records–inked a distribution and marketing deal with BDG-Sony Red. The deal includes the release of Moye’s aforementioned upcoming full length album, as well as signing independent artists to her WCE label to be distributed via BDG/Red. Brody Distribution Group (BDG) CEO Jeff Brody is especially excited about the new partnership, promising that “BDG and Red are prepared to meet [Moye’s] unique and commercial appeal with 110% global support.” For Moye, the excitement is mutual. “I have found a great partner in Jeff Brody at BDG and his marketing team at Stache Media and Red. I couldn’t think of a better family to be a part of.”

Anyone with an ear to the ground knows that distribution deals and partnerships such as this can be a boon for independent artists, who often find these kinds of arrangements to be more mutually beneficial, profitable, and sustainable than more traditional major label deals. Malina Moye Plays Sony City at SXSW & Stops Traffic

Friday night lights… of Austin Texas shined bright upon the rooftop of Hangar Lounge in downtown Austin; four stories above thousands of music lovers–many of whom created a traffic jam as they stood watching Malina Moye projected on the side of Hangar’s sister club Six as she rocked the house. In an exclusive and sold-out show on Sony’s main stage at Sony City, Malina played a handful of new tracks from her forthcoming record ‘Rock & Roll Baby’ and was deemed ‘a favorite’ among festival goers. Other favs at SXSW included Prince, Justin Timberlake, Green Day, Robert Randolph and Stevie Nicks. Malina’s last performance in Austin was for the Experience Hendrix tour at Austin City Limits.

The Rock Hall has called and Malina has answered! On October 27, 2012, Malina will join Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s 17th Annual American Music Master series that culminates with a special tribute to honoring 1986 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductee, Chuck Berry. The evening will feature live music from a wide variety of artists who have been influenced by his music and special appearance by Mr. Berry himself. Other tribute performers scheduled to appear include Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees Ernie Isley and Darryl DMC McDaniels, Joe Bonamassa, Rick Derringer, Rosie Flores, John Fullbright, David Johansen, Ronnie Hawkins, JD McPherson, Lemmy Kilmister, Merle Haggard, Chuck Prophet, Vernon Reid, Duke Robillard, Ray Sharpe, Earl Slick and M.
